Coughlan Estate 2020 Semillon sweeps up Silver at global wine awards
This week our client Coughlan Estate is celebrating their 2020 Semillon, which has just been awarded 91 points at the 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards.
Celebrating their 20th year, the Decanter Award has firmly established itself as the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. Respected globally for its rigorous judging process and world-class judges, results are trusted internationally by both trade and consumers.
This year's Decanter Awards were judged by 236 wine experts, including 53 Masters of Wine and 16 Master Sommeliers.
A true celebration of the Geographe wine region and their pristine winery, the team are simply over the moon with joy that the single-site hand-picked 2020 Semillon is being recognised on the global stage.
From the judges: a perfumed nose with hints of flowers, grassy notes and hints of savoury oak. Plenty of flavour, with a creamy texture.
The hand-picked Semillon fruit is harvested in the early hours of the morning before being crushed and left of skin for four hours before being pressed. The cloudy juice is racked after a day of settling and undergoes fermentation in stainless steel. After fermentation the wine is battonnaged on full solids fortnightly in order to introduce a deeper level of texture and flavour.
Located just a stone's throw from the township of Donnybrook in the Geographe Wine Region, the family-owned vineyard at Coughlan Estate produces hand-picked boutique wines from some of the region's most established vines.
Preeti and Brad Coughlan established their namesake estate in 2018. As the most recent custodian of the region’s oldest vines, Coughlan Estate is dedicated to celebrating the distinctive expressions of the site in every glass of wine.
Congratulations winemaking and growing team!
