TEN TO TRY | International Shiraz Day Edition

The first evidence of grape cultivation in Shiraz came around BC2500, when vines were brought down from the mountains to the plains of southwest Iran. As one of the heartiest and most widely planted grape varietals in the world, Shiraz has been a mainstay in the global wine industry for centuries. These days we (Australia) sit up top with France as one of the largest producers. Locally, our history with Shiraz kicks off in the early 1800s when Shiraz vines were brought to Australia in 1832 as a part of the Busby collection from the Rhône Valley in France. The very first Shiraz vines were planted in the Hunter Valley and still exist there today as part of the oldest and biggest collection of old-vine Shiraz in the world. To mark the recent International Shiraz Day, we are flicking through ten to try at Craft Alliance Co.
